Back from the 3rd Red Sea Liveaboard

Posted under Holidays & Photography & Red Sea

From the 10th of November till the 17th of November I had the pleasure of being on my 3rd Liveaboard in 2008 :)

This time we did a Sinai Classic trip. From Sharm el Sheikh, we went to Ras Mohammed, crossed Abu Nuhas, to dive the Ghiannis D and Carnatic, then back again to Thistlegorm, and the trip ended in the Strait of Tiran.

Here you can see the 5 danes doing this trip together, and Hans from Germany (the 3 other germans had left for the airport already).

From the left we have Hans, Allan, Lise, myself, Rune and Arne.
From page 2, you can see the gps tracks I logged on the trip (nearly all the trip is logges). 1 day per page.

The page is google map heavy, so might take a few moments to load. On the next trip i’ll set the log speed to less than 1 log every 5 sec, that is way to much for a boat going at 15 km/h.

On the 20th of October 2008, I had the pleasure of certifying Lise Thomsen as Padi Advanced Open Water Diver.

Therefore she now has the 150th dive certificate I have issued in my Diving Career :-)

Until now (5th of November) I have issued the following diving certificates:

Diving Certificate: Numbers issued:
Scuba Diver 1
Junior Openwater 5
Openwater 72
Advanced Openwater 26
Rescue Diver 12
Divemaster 1
Total: 117
_
Specialities:
Deep 8
Digital Underwater Photography 1
Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox) 19
Night 1
Wreck 3
Underwater Navigator 1
Total: 33
_
Total dive certificates: 150
_Totalf

I have also issued 9 Emergency First Response certificates.

My plan is to become a Padi Master Instructor, I have issued enough certifications, but not of the correct type. At the moment, I need to certify 1 EFR, 4 Divemasters, and 5 Assistant Instructors to be able to apply.

I am now certified as Padi IDC Staff Instructor

Posted under Courses & Malta

From the 22th of October until the 29th of October I had the pleasure of being on Malta diving with Divewise.

During this period I did do the Padi IDC Staff instructor course. On the 27th of October I pass the course :-)

This was quite an interesting course, during which I followed an Assistant Instructor course, evaluating the students together with the Staff Instructor and Course Director doing the course.

Of course us IDC Staff Instructor students where being evaluated as well, we had to do the 20 skill circuit, with a score of minimum 4 for each skill. We had to do teaching presentation, and confined water presentations as well.

In the standards written exam there was 40 questions, and we had to have at least 80% correct, I had a single error which mean I had 97.5% correct :-)
In the theory exam there was 5 sections of each 20 questions, again we must have at least 80% correct. I had 100% correct in 4 of them, and a single error in the RDP/Wheel exam. I am VERY pleased with my result :-)

I am really looking forward to do my first Assistant instructor course.

Here you can see some pictures of the Staff Instructors candidates and the Assistant Instructors candidates.

Freediving The Arch at Blue Hole in Dahab

Posted under Fun diving & Red Sea

I just found this video on youtube today, it shows a William Trubridge freediving the Arch at Blue Hole in Dahab.

YouTube Preview Image

It is simply amazing to watch it, I really envy the freedivers their freedom. In the beginning of the movie you can see the support tech divers, watch the amount of equipment they need.

Hopefully I’ll go to Dahab and do this dive using tech equipment, I have the education to do it, but never been to Dahab.
