So now we can finally dive with trimix on the unit, and do deco.

Rebreather Technical Upgrades Program

Poseidon Diving Systems announced today their program for technical upgrades of the Discovery MK VI rebreather. The program will deliver 3 key upgrades: 40M Deco, 45M Tri-Mix and 60M Tri-Mix. All current owners of Discovery MK VIs will be able to use these upgrades as they become available.

Poseidon’s tech upgrade program has been designed with 2 key objectives in mind:

1. To allow all existing and future Discovery MK VI owners to expand the performance range of their MKVIs beyond the recreational envelope, should they wish to do so
2. To enable Dive Instructors to teach both recreational and technical courses on the MK VI

40M Deco: Firmware upgrade, using air as diluent

45M Tri-Mix: Firmware upgrade, using Normoxic Tri-Mix as diluent, with a choice of helium fractions

60M Tri-Mix: Firmware and hardware upgrade, allowing for manual addition

Upgrade pricing and availability will be announced at DEMA in November, along with certification levels required for each upgrade. All current and future Discovery MK VI owners will be able to use these upgrades.

We where a group of divers, at the Kreidesee in Hemmoor, Germany.

On the 2nd and 3rd of April, I had my 4 first non training dives on my rebreather. And I am absolutly sure it is a good investment, I enjoyed every single dive.

Thanks to the rest of the divers for a great weekend in Germany.

It was like Christmas to unpack the equipment and assembling it. It was like getting Lego as a kid for Christmas.

I have been thinking about buying a Poseidon Discovery MK-VI Rebreather for a few years now. Last Wednesday I did it. I ordered the unit from Scansub DK Diver in Roskilde, Denmark.

So when the unit arrives from Sweden, I am going on an IANTD course, to learn to dive the unit.

I’ll be back with more information when I have had some experience on the unit.

The main reason I wan’t to dive a rebreather is to get longer bottom time without going into deco, and also to make less noise underwater when doing underwater photography. And of course a new toy is always fun

Unfortunately it was the same as in Düsseldorf, nothing new to see, but it was a good place to meet old students, old colleges, dive friends, and just to talk.

There was a big display of all sorts of different rebreathers from the very old to the brand new ones, like the Sentinel and the Poseidon Cis Lunar MK. VI.

I had the pleasure of seeing a presentation made by Mark Ellyat a famous deep diver, he had made some nice videos of his dive, to the Victoria, Yolanda and other wrecks. Also i saw the last 10 minutes of John Bantin’s presentation of lovely underwater pictures.

The pictures is a mixture of old friends, rebreathers and the presentations.

There wasn’t really anything new to se, but I got a few nice shots of the Poseidon Cis Lunar MK. VI rebreather.

The first version of the Cis Lunar Mk. VI will only allow you to dive to a max depth of 40 meter, and only on nitrox. So no playing around with trimix and stuff like that.

Another smart move, is you don’t have to spent time packing your scrubber, they come prepacked, this will of course be a little more expensive compared to doing it yourself, but i am a lazy person, so I love the idea.

I am looking forward to hear what people think about it once it has been released to the public in a month or two.

Other than being the longest cave dive yet, it is also the longest dive between 2 different entry points. The cave system they dived, is the 4th largest in the world.

Helium for trimix diving is already expensive as it is, but it does not seem to get any cheaper.

Therefore I am seriously considering getting a rebreather.
The model I want is the Sentinel Rebreather, but £5400 + extra for the course is quite a lot of money.

But I am ‘afraid’ i am doing it anyway
